Size: 0.1 oz
Price: $40

So by now you have probably heard all about this product, maybe from YouTube or Beauty Blogs. It's an uber luxurious highlighter product that is supposed to change your life! If you read the claims above then for sure this is a miracle product right? Hmmm...but what do I think?

My 4 Ps

Price
This is priced at $40 for 0.1 oz. I'm going to be blunt here, YSL can kiss my behind with this (would use the A word but I try to be respectful on this blog). Think about this, remember that expensive NARS Sheer Glow Foundation that hurt my wallet but was still decent enough for me to buy? Well at least that cost $42 for 1.0 oz but Touche Eclat is 10% of the size and costs about the same. What the hell? Is it liquid gold? Nope...the main ingredients are water and mineral oil. Hmph! Do you see where I'm going with this?

Packaging
The packaging is a sleek gold metal cased pen with a brush tip and a button to release the product. Cute, sleek and sturdy but for the price I wouldn't expect any less. Maybe it's gold plated? I doubt it....but this is the high point of the product.

Product
Product? You mean the 0.1oz of it? Oh that! So the product is pretty much a lightweight liquid that applies sheerly to the skin. It is infused with micro-fine shimmer which I guess is to reflect light. There are 5 shades available and since it is a highlighter/illuminator then it's suitable for all skintones and shades. Seems like any other highlighter/illuminator product to me.

3 Light Peach - for medium complexions with peachy undertones
Doesn't this just look like light concealer?

5 Luminous Honey - for medium complexions with olive and golden undertones
Doesn't this just look like light concealer?

Performance
So with the price kicking me in the head and the product seemingly like any other of its kind, I thought the performance would have blown me away. Not! I'm sure lots of us associated price with quality and even a brand name with quality. Maybe sometimes we even do so subconsciously and just think a product is so freaking awesome because, well it has to be based on the label and price tag right?

I honestly think that is the case here. YSL is no up and coming brand. No way! Yves Saint Laurent (yes throw in the french pronunciation here) is a high end luxury brand my dear. So I can raise my nose at you if you don't use this product because it is wonderful and expensive and I use it!

Now that I have taken my pompous head out of my rear, let's be real. It does nothing that it professes to do...at least not for me. Maybe I just have super tired eyes and mega dark circles or something. Or maybe the product is all hype and no bite. Yes it adds radiance (with it's light reflecting shimmer) but I didn't get the miracle illuminated well rested effect they purport. In fact, I can get a better effect with a lighter colored foundation and some strobe cream or any cheaper illuminator.

I'm not saying it does not do something and it's not cute and all. It is a nice product to have and it does add some brightness to the undereyes and can be used to highlight other areas. But it doesn't deliver the miracle it declares and what I would expect from such a whopping price tag!

Overall
Don't buy into the hype. Find a cheaper alternative illuminator!

Have you tried it? Do you love it? Hate it? Am I just a jaded beauty lover? : )

  1. I owned this at at one time and it was indeed nice for touch-ups and nice to throw in my purse BUT, Maybelline has the instant rewind dual end concealer and the highlight side of that is just as good if not better IMO, not to mention WAY less expensive.

  2. You know I bought this in 4. I also have that Sheer Glow in Tahoe. I really feel into the hype but I think it makes a difference, at least I tell myself it does LOL. SPNation did a tutorial and obviously he should be on the YSL payroll because he convinced me I needed it.

  3. That's my thought Sarah. It's nice enough but I can find somethign much cheaper and get the same if not better results. I should return them but I'm not much of a beauty product 'returner'.

Don't worry hypnotic. I'm the same way. I fall head over heels into the hype and sometimes it's worth it. But this time around it was all hype. SPNation got me too! He loves this stuff...and I got it and expected to melt but umm....nothing big happened...LOL! I love me some SP tho!

  4. I have it and I love it. I get 8 hours of wear and no creasing, and I can pretty much kiss my dark circles goodbye. I think the difference is on me, #1 blends perfectly. I just bought my second tube (luckily with the 20% VIB discount), though ITA that $40 pricetag is hard to swallow.

  5. Awesome swatch! My darkies stayed around :( I think even if I loved it I still wouldn't buy it again tho just because it's so steep in price.

  7. I sure did get my $20 VIB card! If I can't find anything else to buy (as if that's ever a problem!), I'll get another Touch Eclat, just so I'm set for awhile. :)

  9. I agree w/ you 110%. I tried a sample of this and it's ridiculous that anyone would pay that much $$$ for that little of product when it doesn't do anything special.
