Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick - Thoughts and Swatches...

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick - Thoughts and Swatches...

Leaving no shade unturned,  Urban Decay's huge assortment of colors and textures tempt you to stray from an otherwise predicable palette. The luxuriously creamy formula nourishes and protects lips with Vitamins A, C, and E. Hyaluronic Spheres (found naturally in the body) are added to stimulate cellular function, prevent dehydration, and fill-in lines and wrinkles-now, how many Lipsticks can do that?! The teardrop-shape bullet (etched with an Urban Decay logo) is infused with a decadent crème caramel scent and flavor. Yum.

My 4 Ps

Price
The Urban Decay Lipsticks are $22 for 0.13 oz. This is definitely pricey for a lipstick but when compared to other similar brands I guess it's not too severe. Compare these to MUFE Rouge Artist Intense which go for $19 for 0.12 oz, Too Faced Lip of Luxury go for $20 for 0.12 oz and NARS goes for $24 for 0.12 oz. And it's nowhere close to Chanel, YSL or Guerlain lip products which are upwards of $30. So the price is not out of the box but when compared but MAC Lipsticks, which go for $14.50, the price does have a sting to it.

Packaging
The packaging for these lipsticks does have it's good points and one specific drawback. First off, the package is trendy and hip with a dagger at one end, a tapered cylindrical tube and a decorative cover. Also the label is color coordinated with the lip product that is contained. The inner tube is a metallic purple while the outer cover has a cool purple swirl design. Even the actual lip product has a nifty dagger and Urban Decay imprint.Very pleasing to the eye...until...you try to store it. The colored label is great until you realized it's not that handy because you have to store these with the label facing downwards since the dagger in on the other end. The tube is also thicker than average lipsticks so it won't fit in smaller lipstick holders. So for the awesome packaging you will have to suffer a tiny bit in the storage department.

Product
What a gorgeous red! This is a true red that does not register any orange tone at all. In fact it leans more towards the cooler, more blue based end of the spectrum. Because it's such a neutral red, it should work well with most, if not all, skin tones. It has a creamy silky texture and a glossy sheen finish without shimmer, glitter or frost.

The color is pigmented and you get full coverage in just one swipe. It's best to go over the first layer to intensify and lock in the color.

The lipstick smells like vanilla sugar to me and I guess I can detect that crème caramel scent that is touted. I didn't get a flavor though - it just tasted like lipstick. The scent is a bit intense and it lingers so if you are sensitive to smells definitely make sure you take a whiff before committing.

Performance
It really feels like Urban Decay achieved exactly what they claim. It applies smoothly to the lips and leaves a silky sheen without any hint of shimmer. It has a very creamy finish and I did not find the need to add any lipgloss since the lipstick itself is super moisturizing.

The lipstick did not settle into any lines - in fact it filled them in. It kept my lips hydrated and smooth for a great 4-6 hours of wear. And it doesn't leave a stain which I prefer with darker lipsticks. I just don't want to deal with stained lips after I take my lipstick off. I didn't wear a liner with this lipstick but I don't have issues with lipsticks bleeding and straying outside my lip line so I can't really judge this aspect of wear.

Overall
If you can get pass the price and smell and you are willing to splurge a bit for a great red lipstick then go for this one! It's a great formula and a universal red color.

  5. Hi Sabina. Red Dragon is a much more intense and pigmented red. Red Dragon is also a liquid lipstick rather than a tube lipstick like Revolution. The color itself is similar and Urban Decay is much cheaper. :)

    I love it Libra!

I would definitely recommend u try these out. They r great quality Doll.

    No prob Erin. :)
