Foundation Overview - Make Up For Ever (MUFE) HD Invisible Cover Foundation

Foundation Overview - Make Up For Ever (MUFE) HD Invisible Cover Foundation

From Make Up For Ever and Sephora:

The MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Complexion products use innovative formulas to create a new generation of make up which is both invisible on HD cameras and to the naked eye. The HD Foundation is an oil-free medium-to-full coverage liquid foundation which covers skin imperfections, while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life. Its extremely fine texture is supple and easy to apply. Enriched with moisturizing agents, it leaves the skin soft and radiant. It is available in a wide range of shades to suit all skin tones.

This foundation creates a soft-focus effect, which is designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It leaves your complexion with such a flawless finish, it can withstand bright or harsh lighting.

Size: 1.01 oz.
Price: $40
My Skin Background
I have normal/oily skin with larger pores on my cheeks and nose. I have light freckles across my nose and a sprinkling on my cheeks as well. I have a warm undertone (yellow) and relatively even skintone. I don't have issues with acne or red spots so I don't need much coverage.
This costs $40 for 1.01 oz. This is within the range of higher end foundations and I'm sure the HD label factors in quite a bit here. No issues for me here because quite frankly if you are going high end for foundation then this price is expected.

The foundation comes in a hard plastic rounded bottle with a built in pump. This is ideal since it's more sanitary than an open bottle plus you have more control over how much product you dispense. Plus since it's built in you don't have to spend extra dollars on a separate pump. I do prefer glass for foundations just because it extends shelf life but this is hardened plastic so it's as close as you can get to glass minus the breakage risk.

This bottle is not completely transparent even though it appears to be so guessing when you need a refill takes some eyeballing and squinting to figure out how product remains.

This foundation is available in 25 shades at Sephora and Make Up For Ever. The colors cover a great range of skintones from very light to deep with pink, beige, olive and yellow undertones. It is best to get matched to the correct shade in person but you can check out Temptalia's Foundation Matrix for what others have found to match. I'm shade 173 - MAC NC45 for reference.

Make Up For Ever is available in the US at Sephora, and The Make Up For Ever boutiques in NYC

Medium coverage. I don't get full coverage from this foundation since it is a lightweight and thinner formula. It allows the skin to show through while evening skintone and covering light discoloration.

This finish is suited for HD cameras since it looks like 'real skin'. The finish is satiny and very slightly dewy. Your skin looks healthy and glowy without appearing shiny. The foundation covers large pores and doesn't settle into lines so feel free to go HD and embrace the flash!
With Foundation   /     Without

Since I have oily skin any foundation that touts 'dewy' 'glowy' 'radiant' will allow my oils to seep through pretty quickly. Thankfully the foundation is oil free so I get a few (read 3.5-4) hours of wear before I need to blot. But I have to do that anyway for the most part so I don't mind. It does give a good 8 hours of wear before it seems to start wearing off as well.

I recommend this foundation for normal to dry skin but maybe not so much for oily ladies such as myself. It is moisturizing, lightweight and feels great on the skin. It's great for photography and HD filming but I wouldn't wear it on a hot summer day.
Since the foundation is oil-free and non-comedogenic then it will also be great for sensitive and acne-prone skin.

To get the best effect for HD filming this foundation needs to be used with other HD products such as primer and powder. Otherwise you may lose the intended 'HD'ness of the foundation.

  1. MUFE HD has been my HG since I bought it about 2 years ago. I have combo skin though, slightly on the drier side. I agree it photographs amazingly!

The best thing about it for me, was that they do neutral undertones. Shade 118 has been my best match in any brands.

  2. ~Ok, This is the foundation that I use now. I love it, but maybe because of my super oily skin is why i always look shinny even after I set my foundation...HaHa...

Which foundation brands would you recommend for oily skin?

  3. I agree Saadeh. I think the MUFE HD line has some of the best neutral undertones. I'm glad it works for u lovely. I think it works best for drier skin like u said.

  4. Hey CruzB girl! Yep! I stay oily even after setting this foundation. The best foundation I have tried so far for super oily skin is the new MAC Pro Longwear Foundation. It stays matte for hours on end and doesn't even need a setting powder except for the t-zone area.

    Try it out girl.

  5. Hi,

    What shade do you use?

  6. I'm thinking about buying one too ! you didnt mention the shade you used on your picture ;)

  7. I've noticed on your blog that you're an nc45, and so am I. Some nc45's are a shade 175 or 170 in mufe, so you can't really use someone else's "MAC reference" to guide you in other shades from other brands. I find it funny, ironic, and pretty darn cool that every shade you match in every brand is every shade I match in every brand. Trust me, I will be using you and your blog as my reference, haha

    1. Very very true. I guess the the MAC reference is really just a rough estimate. It's good that my shades match up to yours tho...makes it quite easy then :)
