Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon HOLIDAY 2010 Palettes - THOUGHTS and SWATCHES...

Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon HOLIDAY 2010 Palettes - THOUGHTS and SWATCHES...

Wet 'n' Wild has debuted 4 new ColorIcon Palettes for their Holiday 2010 Collection. Each of the palettes come with 6 limited edition eyeshadow shades and a bonus eye pencil.

These palettes were $4.49 at Harmons where I bought mine but I think they retail for $4.99. Don't forget that there are numerous sales at drugstores at any given time so you may be able to get these cheaper in a Buy One Get One Half Off Sale.

Update from the lovely favorisntfair: These are available at Walgreens and they are even having a 50% off sale!

The palettes are similar to the basic Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon Palettes and come with 6 eyeshadows. The difference in the holiday palettes is that all the shades are either shimmery or glitter packed versus shimmers and mattes as in the originals.

The eyeshadows are all highly pigmented and very true to the color seen in the palette. There are 4 palettes in all: Golden Goddess - golds, bronze and orange tones, Snow Sprite - silvers, greens and blue, Plum Fairy - pinks, purples and plums, Night Elf- silvers, black and red.

These are great palettes are the budget conscious and savvy shopper. These are also best suited for those of us who love shimmer and glitter. These are not subtle satin shades...they are full on shimmery shades for the holiday season. Happy shopping!

'Pride, Vanity and Lust' Look

Pride, Vanity and Lust' Look

This look was inspired by Alejandra from QueenBMakeup. I have admired her work from her early days in the Show Your Face forum on MakeUpGeek and she continues to rock our world on her blog as well as YouTube.

I used a lot of Wet 'n' Wild products this time around to show how great they perform. While I love the eye products I can't say the same for the lip products. I have had major issues when applying the Mega Last® Lip Colors because they creep into lip lines and will not stay put! I think they have great colors but the wear-ability is lacking in these.

Eyes:

PRIME:
I started off with NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base all over my lid up to the brow bone. I applied MAC Layin' Low Paintpot (matte beige) all over my lid and on my brow bone as my primary base.

COLOR:
On the entire lid area I applied the matte Light Pink Eyeshadow from the Wet 'n' Wild Lust Palette.
For the outer lid and crease I used the Frosty Bronze Eyeshadow from the Wet 'n' Wild Vanity Palette.
On the outer crease and brow bone area I applied the Yellow Gold Eyeshadow from the Wet 'n' Wild Vanity Palette.
To deepen the outer V I used the Dark red-based Brown Eyeshadow from the Wet 'n' Wild Vanity Palette.
For my highlight I used the Sparkly Ivory Eyeshadow from the Wet 'n' Wild Lust Palette.
For my lower lashline I used the Frosty Dark Blue Eyeshadow - OUTER and the Frosty Forest Green Eyeshadow - INNER from the Wet 'n' Wild Pride Palette.

BROWS:
My brows are filled in with MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud and NARS Coconut Grove Eyeshadow (matte blackened brown).

DEFINE:
I lined my upper lashline with MAC Dipdown Fluidline Gel Eyeliner (matte dark brown).
I lined my lower waterline with L'Oreal HIP Cream Eyeliner in Black.
I used MAC Haute & Naughty Lash Mascara for my lashes with Beautee Senses Annie False Eyelashes for effect.

Lips:

POLISH:
For my lips I used Wet 'n' Wild 900B Pink Suga' Mega Last® Lip Color (creamy light peachy nude) topped with MAC Chai Lipglass (creamy nude).

Face:

FINISH:
I prepped my skin with MAC Oil Control Lotion and Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer. I used MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NC45 for my face set with MAC Blot Powder in Dark. I used MUFE Full Cover Concealer in #12 under my eyes set with Benefit Powderflage. No blush.

Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon Palettes PART 2 - Swatches and Thoughts...

Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon Palettes PART 2 - THOUGHTS and SWATCHES...

COLOR ICON™ EYESHADOW PALETTE
Glamour-eyes from day to night! Each complementary shade can be mixed-and-matched for a variety of day-to-night looks. These palettes of 3 matte and 3 highly-pigmented effect shades are sure to please the shade sassy minimalist and enthusiast alike!

So being the glutton that I am (yes a play on the 7 deadly sins theme) I went ahead and picked up the other two palettes from the Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon collection - Pride and Lust.
MY Four Ps

My first three Ps - Price, Packaging and Product - stay the same from the first review that you can read HERE.

Performance

These palettes are in sync with the first two. They applied beautifully, have great pigmentation and rocked my socks! The lightest shimmery shade from the Pride palette is so-so and comes off as an ivory sheen rather than the color you see. Other than than that all is well. The mattes are perfection and I think I will be using these a lot.

Overall the top two palettes are the Vanity and Lust palettes for sure since all six shades in each palette has great color payoff. The other two are also great but there is a slight miss with one or two of the shimmery shades.

'Vanity and Greed' Look

'Vanity and Greed' Look

So after sharing my thoughts on the Wet 'n' Wild ColorIcon palettes it's only right that I also shared the look I came up with. I loved working with the eyeshadows from the Vanity and Greed palettes...but Vanity wins the race as far as faves go. Makeup doesn't have to be expensive to look great and work well....always remember that.

Eyes:

PRIME:
I started off with NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base all over my lid up to the brow bone. I applied MAC Layin' Low Paintpot (matte beige) all over my lid and on my brow bone as my primary base.

COLOR:
For the inner lid I applied the Light Beige color from the Wet 'n' Wild Vanity Palette.
On the middle of the lid I applied the Coral Pink color  from the Wet 'n' Wild Greed Palette.
For the outer lid and outer V I used MAC Cross Cultural Eyeshadow (matte yellow-based dark brown).
On the crease and brow bone area I applied the Creamy Camel color from the Wet 'n' Wild Vanity Palette.
For my highlight I used Icy Champagne color from the Wet 'n' Wild Vanity Palette.
For my lower lashline I used the Black color from the Wet 'n' Wild Vanity Palette - outer and the Coral Pink color  from the Wet 'n' Wild Greed Palette - inner.

BROWS:
My brows are filled in with MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Stud and NARS Coconut Grove Eyeshadow (matte blackened brown).

DEFINE:
I lined my upper lashline with Wet 'n' Wild Crème Eyeliner in Black smudged with the Black color from the Wet 'n' Wild Vanity Palette.
I lined my lower waterline with L'Oreal HIP Cream Eyeliner in Black.
I used MAC Haute & Naughty Lash Mascara for my lashes.

Lips:

POLISH:
For my lips I used Wet 'n' Wild 903C Just peachy Mega Last lip Color (pinky peach).

Face:

FINISH:
I prepped my skin with MAC Oil Control Lotion. I used MUFE Mat Velvet + Foundation in #70 for my face set with MAC Blot Powder in Dark. I used MUFE Full Cover Concealer in #12 under my eyes set with Benefit Powderflage.
I used MUFE #9 In the Spotlight HD Microfinish Blush (pinky nude) for my cheeks.

                 246 Greed                             247 Pride                         248 Lust

              249 Vanity

So I went to Harmon's yesterday to grab a new Wet 'n' Wild Gel Eyeliner and noticed their ColorIcon Palettes and I was intrigued. I picked up two of them (Greed and Vanity) because of the simple neutral colors. Afterall you can never go wrong with having neutral staple colors in your eyeshadow arsenal.

My Four Ps

Price
These retail for around $4.99 at many drugstores, beauty supply store and even supermarkets (Pathmark). That's quite a steal for a palette of 6 eyeshadows - less than $1 each. Plus you may be lucky to snatch these up at a 'buy one, get one free' sale. Even if you use only one of these eyeshadows it still works out cheaper than all the high end brands plus it's still on the cheaper end of the drugstore brands. Thumbs up for price.

Packaging
This is a simple clear lid black palette with six eyeshadows and with two included applicators. The package is drugstore quality so don't expect great quality here. It is functional but not flimsy and should be able to endure normal handling. The snap tab that is used to close the palette is not the strongest but it holds it closed well enough for light travel. I would be careful not to drop it though because I can see it breaking with that kind of impact.

   249 Vanity              246 Greed

Product
The palette comes with six shades as stated before - 3 matte and 3 shimmery shades. The colors are well coordinated and can be mixed and matched for a variety of looks. This color combinations are great because they include darker crease shades and great highlight shades in addition to the central colors.

What surprised me was the creamy consistency of the mattes shades. WOW! These are so soft and creamy and pigmented! These rival ANY of the top brands out there for sure. Dare I say these are similar to or even better than the MAC Matte2 finish. The shimmery shades are great as well but I would say they are not as pigmented as the mattes.

 249 Vanity

  246 Greed

The two applicators are throw-aways as far as I am concerned. There's a small sponge tipped applicators and a small brush. I consider these just for decorative purposes.

Performance
I already used some of the eyeshadows in a look today and I was just happy as a clam working with the eyeshadows. They applied beautifully, held up in pigmentation and rocked my socks! The two lighter shimmery shades from the Greed palette are so-so and come off as a golden sheen rather than the color you see. Other than than that all is well. The mattes are perfection and I think I will be using these a lot. May need to check out the single when I get a chance.

All around great palettes especially for the cheap price. I love these and highly recommend them.
