My Five Ps

Price
The MAC Paintpots retail for $17.50 for 0.17 oz of product. There are a couple of cream eyeshadows in pot form that can be used for comparison. The MAC Paintpots are among the cheapest on the market in terms of actual price but in terms of price/quantity value it falls within the same realm as most of its adversaries. See below:

Purchasing
The MAC Posh Paradise Collection Paintpots are Limited Edition products which means once they are sold out or the taken off shelves they are gone for good (or until re-promoted). They are available for purchase on the MAC (stores and online) and other MAC retailers such as Nordstrom, Macy's Bloomingdales and Dillard’s. Limited Edition products can sell out fast so get it while you can!

Packaging
MAC Paintpots come in small glass jars with a solid plastic screw-top lid. The thing to keep in mind with cream products is the longevity or shelf-life of the product. You can get 100 oz. of product but if it dries out in 2 weeks it really is a waste of money (no matter the price). The glass jars preserve the creaminess and therefore the life-span of your MAC Paintpots. Add to that the heavy duty sturdy screw-top lid that closes tightly in place to protect the product from exposure to air. I haven't had any issues with my Paintpots drying out but I have had other products in plastic jars dry out pretty quickly. MAC got it right!

Product & Performance
When MAC gets it right they GET IT RIGHT! I love MAC Paintpots! They are my go-to for eyeshadow bases.

The MAC Posh Paradise Collection Paintpots are touted as having a frost finish but this is certainly (and thankfully) not the case at all! In fact, Nubile, Half-Wild and Hyperviolet are definitely more of a cream/semi-matte finish. Treasure Hunt, Idyllic, Imaginary and Pure Creation are frosts with subtle shimmer and not high shine metallics. Genuine Treasure is the only outlier here with its glittery finish and slightly finicky texture.

The MAC Posh Paradise Collection Paintpots are very creamy and overall apply smoothly onto the lids. There is the exception of Genuine Treasure which has micro-glitter and therefore can come off a bit clumpy if applies to dry or crepe-y lids.

As with other Paintpots these wear extremely well alone or as a base for powder eyeshadow. They do not crease or budge or smudge. They are also water resistant and resist fading throughout wear. The only weary shade again is Genuine Treasure which will lose some of its glitter if rubbed vigorously. They blend well together and with other cream products as well. I would urge you to consider using an eyeshadow primer if you have overly oily lids and are prone to creasing. I personally have no issues with Paintpots creasing on my lids

Overall
I love MAC Paintpots! I think there are some fabulous colors in the MAC Posh Paradise Collection to choose from so this is definitely a MUST SEE! I do believe there is something here for everybody as well from neutrals to colorful options. My faves are Pure Creation, Nubile, Half-Wild and Imaginary!

PICTURES & SWATCHES

Genuine Treasure - Reflects antique gold
Dark antique gold shimmer/glitter in a a deep brown semi-transparent base.
Applies smoothly but can create clumps on dry/uneven lids.
Very interesting color than can be used for a glittery smoky eye.

***

Half-Wild - Mid-tone purple
Mid-tone red based purple - translates lighter than seen in the pot.
Smooth and creamy. Dries to a mostly matte color. Beautiful for purple looks.

***

Hyperviolet - Deep violet
Very deep red based violet - translates as a burgundy/wine color.
Smooth and creamy. Dries to a mostly matte color. Dark enough to be used as an eyeliner.

***

Idyllic - Mid-tone copper bronze
This is best described as a deep cranberry shade with red shimmer/sheen.
It is (nearly) identical to Artifact Paintpot except a touch more coppery sheen.

***

Imaginary - Blackened navy (Frost)
This is such a gorgeous deep purple/blue color. It is not blackened as described though.
It reflects an intense purple sheen and reminds me of Contrast Eyeshadow.

***

Nubile - Light peachy nude
This is one of my faves because it reminds me of my beloved layin' Low Paintpot (long gone).
It is just as described -  a light peach nude. There is some subtle sheen that keeps it from being a matte shade.
It reflects a bit pink until compared to more pinky tones.

***

Pure Creation - Mid-tone frosty blue
This is nothing like the swatch shown on the MAC website. This blue is much deeper than depicted.
It's a deep blue similar to Deep truth Eyeshadow.

***

Treasure Hunt - Light pearled yellow
This is a gorgeous light yellow gold color. It's more golden than yellow as described.
This will make a great highlight color for the inner corners and maybe even for the cheeks.
It would go well on the cupid's bow as well.

COMPARISONS

Of course there will be comparisons to existing products so here we go!

Idyllic Paintpot  -   Artifact Paintpot   -   Flammable Paint
(L-R)

Idyllic Paintpot  -   Artifact Paintpot   -   Flammable Paint
Idyllic and Artifact are identical hands-down. Idyllic may dry down a bit more matte than Artifact
but no big difference. Missed Artifact? Get Idyllic
Flammable is long gone but I had to compare - it's much more red based than Idyllic.

***

Hyperviolet Paintpot  -   Dark Diversion Fluidline   -   Macroviolet Fluidline
(L-R)

Hyperviolet Paintpot  -   Dark Diversion Fluidline   -   Macroviolet Fluidline
Hyperviolet and dark Diversion are almost identical in color. Hyperviolet definitely has a matte finish while Dark Diversion has some sheen to it. Of course you get more product for the price from a paintpot.
Macroviolet doesn't even compare except for the naming convention :)
but no big difference.

Treasure Hunt Paintpot - MUFE #11 Aqua Cream - Soft Ochre Paintpot - Chilled On Ice Paintpot - Base Light Paint
(L-R)

Treasure Hunt Paintpot - MUFE #11 Aqua Cream - Soft Ochre Paintpot - Chilled On Ice Paintpot - Base Light Paint
Treasure Hunt is a pale gold with hints of yellow while MUFE #11 is a light yellow gold - much more yellow based. Soft Ochre shows up so much pinker compared to Treasure Hunt plus it's matte.
Chilled On Ice is much more icy and pink based and the finish sucks.
I love Base Light! It's a paler yellow gold than Treasure Hunt and comes off more icy.
***

Nubile Paintpot - Layin Low Painpot - Perky Paintpot - Painterly Paintpot
(L-R)

Nubile Paintpot - Layin Low Painpot - Perky Paintpot - Painterly Paintpot

Nubile is a pale beige sightly pinky nude Layin Low is more peachy.
Perky is much more pinky and has a more shimmery texture. Painterly is much lighter plus it's matte.
***

Pure Creation Paintpot - Delft Paintpot - Midnight Blues Fluidline - Siahi Fluidline (TOP: L-R)
Blue Cyan Chromaline - MUFE #20 Aqua Cream - Marine Ultra Chromaline - B Greasepaint Stick (BOTTOM: L-R)

Pure Creation Paintpot - Delft Paintpot - Midnight Blues Fluidline - Siahi Fluidline
Pure Creation is a deep true blue with slight sheen. Delft is much more green/teal based.
Midnight Blues is much deeper with a slight teal sheen.
Siahi is close but also a bit deeper and has a slight green to it as well.

Pure Creation Paintpot - Blue Cyan Chromaline - MUFE #20 Aqua Cream - Marine Ultra Chromaline - B Greasepaint Stick
Pure Creation is a deep true blue with slight sheen. The swatch on the website makes it seems that Blue Cyan would be a close dupe but not even close. Blue Cyan is a light sky blue and matte in finish.
MUFE #20 is the closest dupe I see but I will say MUFE #20 is much prettier with a stronger light blue sheen to it. Marine Ultra is more purple based and matte in finish.
B Greasepaint Stick is a darker blue with light blue sheen.

***

Imaginary Paintpot - Tarte Blue Gel Eyeliner - Inglot #82 Gel Eyeliner - Inglot #83 Gel Eyeliner

Imaginary Paintpot - Tarte Blue Gel Eyeliner - Inglot #82 Gel Eyeliner - Inglot #83 Gel Eyeliner
Imaginary is too unique for words. It's a dusty purple with blue reflects.  All the others are more blue and not close to this color.

Half-Wild Paintpot - Macroviolet Fluidline - MUFE #19 Aqua Cream - Tarte Plum Gel Eyeliner - V Greasepaint Stick - Urban Decay Delinquent Glide-on Pencil
(L-R)

Half-Wild Paintpot - Macroviolet Fluidline - MUFE #19 Aqua Cream - Tarte Plum Gel Eyeliner - V Greasepaint Stick - Urban Decay Delinquent Glide-on Pencil(L-R)
Half-Wild is a matte red-based purple. Macroviolet is similar but deeper in color.
MUFE #19 has a more blue based sheen and is more shimmery. Tarte Plum is a more dusty deep purple. V Greasepaint is more blue based and shimmery. Delinquent is also more blue based and dusty.

  1. so of course half the colors were sold out at MAC online but i had nooo problem waitin til TODAY to grab some! i would recommend swatchin at the counter for colors cuz like u said, their NOT like the colors online! my intentions were strictly for half-wild and treasure hunt. WELL, i figured half-wild is a general purple i own and i have MUFE cream shadow in gold (fave) SO i settled and fell in love w/Idyllic and pure creation which is a goooorgeous blue i do NOT have! i almost got genuine treasure but its too glittery for my liking and i know i wouldnt get too much wear from it :7

thanx for the swatches :) love ur blog!! smooches!!

  2. I just came across your site today with the swatches of the new Mac Posh Paint Pots and can't believe all the effort you went through to show great swatches and comparisons for all the shades! I am thinking of getting Nubile but already own Painterly PP and Untitled Paint so trying to figure if it's a must have, my favorite is the Untitled Paint...love it. Thanks for a great post!

  5. Oh man I saw that too Kisha. thankfully we can still find them in some stores! So far my MAC still has them in (didn't sell out first day). I think I may use Genuine Treasure for smoky looks this fall and winter. I hate the glitter but it actually stays on better than regular glittery eyeshadows. Pure Creation is nothing like on the website...that threw me off! LOL! But I love them all. Enjoy ur haul!

  6. Thanks so much Anonymous. Glad the swatches help. I think nubile is a great buy if you have a darker complexion. Painterly can be a bit too stark against dark skin. Also since Nubile is a satin-y finish it will look great for just a wash of color. Happy shopping!

    Thanks so much Beauty!

  7. Hi Tina, did you get any of the lipsticks in this collection? Could you do swatches of them if so?

  8. Hahahahaa Kisha! I was one of the lucky few to grab MUFE #19 before it was taken off the market in the US. I ordered from the MUFE Boutique in NYC the day it came out so I was luckily able to order that shade :)

  13. Awwww man Kisha! LOL! #19 is no longer at the MUFE boutique. I don't even know if u can order it internationally and have it shipped here...they have laws against it. U would have to buy it overseas or have someone buy it overseas for u. :(

    Thx Anony!

Thanks so much Sha. Lots of effort. My poor arm was red at the end. LOL. Glad it's helpful! :)

  14. Tina, grrrrl ... U out did yourself with this one! So in depth and informative ... Thank you for investing your time {and energy! .. the primary reason I do NOT have a blog}!!!

    I attended the Fall Preview last night (after reading this, of course) and as much as I wanted to love NUBILE it just didn't wanna love me back .. seemed "too light" (NC42) for me, but I did grab IMAGINARY (which I wanna love but dunno what to do with right now -- waiting on a tutorial, hun)and HALF-WILD along with a few other goodies from the Cindy Sherman Collection {Hello VIOLETTA!!!}

Keep up the awesome work -- you ARE appreciated!

  15. Wow, this blog was very helpful! I've wanted Artifact for a few weeks, so I'm going to get Idyllic for sure. I called yesterday and they still had Hyperviolet, so I hope they have Idyllic too. Those are the main two that I want/need.
