Wet 'n' Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection: 8 Color Palettes - THOUGHTS and SWATCHES...
Have you heard? About the word? The bird is the word!
Yes I'm a Family Guy fanatic...but anyhow...the real word is that Wet 'n' Wild has released 3 brand new Color Icon Eyeshadow palettes for 2011. What makes these so special? These feature 8...yes I said 8 eyeshadows!
Now these have been hard to find! They seem to only be available in limited supply (or beauty lovers are snatching them up left and right) and not all the usual locations have them in stock. Check out where to get them on the Wet 'n' Wild website. I didn't see any of the palettes or the display setup at Rite Aid (3 different stores) but I lucked out at Walgreens (got the last ones). Did you think I would fail you guys? Never! I would have hunted them down if I had to AND taken hostages!
But not to worry, these are not anticipated to be limited edition so you will have time to get your hands on these.

My Four Ps
Price
These retail for around $4.99 at the various locations that Wet 'n' Wild products are sold. These are the same price as the existing 6 eyeshadow palettes so you get 2 additional colors and 0.05oz or product for the same buck. That's quite a steal for a palette of 8 eyeshadows - less than $1 each. Plus you may be lucky to snatch these up at a 'buy one, get one free' sale. Even if you use only one of these eyeshadows it still works out cheaper than all the high end brands plus it's still on the cheaper end of the drugstore brands. Double thumbs up for price.
Packaging
These come in similar packaging as the regular 6 eyeshadow palettes - a simple clear lid black palette with 8 eyeshadows and an double ended applicator. The package is drugstore quality so don't expect great quality here. It is functional but not flimsy and should be able to endure normal handling. The snap tab that is used to close the palette is not the strongest but it holds it closed well enough for light travel. I would be careful not to drop it though because I can see it breaking with that kind of impact.
Product
Each palette comes with 8 shades, as stated before, in an assortment of frosty and shimmery finishes. The colors are well coordinated and can be mixed and matched for a variety of looks. The palettes are designed to create everyday looks to deep dark wild nighttime looks. The color combinations are great because they include darker crease shades and great highlight shades in addition to the central colors.
Each eyeshadow is labeled as Browbone, Eyelid, Crease and Definer with a guide on the back of the palette indicating how to go from a Sweet Look to a Flirty Look to a Dramatic Look all the way to a Wild Look. But of course you can mix-and-match any which way you like!
My only disappointment here is the lack of matte shades. Previous palettes were half matte shades and half shimmers. This time around it's all shimmer or sparkles. This is not such a big issue if you intend on mixing and matching with other eyeshadows in your collection. But if you wanted a complete look from a single palette...you may end up looking like a disco ball. Hint hint...a look with all frosts or shimmer is not so fabulous.
The double ended applicator is a throw-away as far as I am concerned...nothing has changed here.
Performance
These eyeshadows are delicious! Wet 'n' Wild did not fail me here! They are richly pigmented and extremely creamy. They applied beautifully and hold up during wear! There were some patchy shades but I will detail those along with the swatches. The glitter shades will of course pose some fall out issues so beware of that. With a decent primer and/or base these will work well. Blue Had Me At Hello takes top prize followed by Comfort Zone for neutrals. Petal Pusher comes in third with 4 so-so shades.
Overall
GET THEM! NOW! Can't say anything else really... : )**************
Swatches
736 Petal Pusher
Left Side: These colors swatched poorly. The Pink Ivory shade was very patchy and chunky. The Light Lavender shade is sheer with light gold interference. The Purple shade is smooth but not takes a bit a laying to get full color. The last shade is a chunky glittery Lavender which is the worst one of all the shades.
Right Side: These colors are beautiful and save the palette. There is an Icy Pink that is beyond divine. A Coppery Red Brown with decent color payoff but not such a lovable color. The third is a rich Burgundy shade with gorgeous fuchsia sparkles. Rounded out by another richly pigmented Black shade with silver glitter.

737 Blue Had Me At Hello
Left Side: The first shade is another chunky Silvery White. The follow-up is a buttery smooth Silver. Next comes the most divine Black w/ Blue Sparkles that would make the perfect smokey eye. Last is a matte Black that isn't super pigmented but works just fine.
Right Side: The first shade is LOVE! Gorgeous Icy Mint eyeshadow that applies like a dream. Next is a beautiful silky Turquoise with a green shift. The Blue shade is rich and smooth and the last shade is a Black with silver sparkles.

738 Comfort Zone
Left Side: These don't look the same as shown in the palette. The first shade is a creamy Icy Gold that is gorgeous. Next is an interesting Peach shade with a golden sheen. Third is a nice Golden Bronze that is not as dark as it appears. The last shade is a delicious Deep Bronze with golden bronze sparkles.
Right Side: Again these look nothing like they do in the palette. First is an Icy Champagne with a pinky tone. Next is a Light Olive Green that applied surprisingly sheer. The Dark Khaki Green that follows is fabulous and unique with its golden sparkles. The finale is a Red Brown with Turquoise Sheen - no it's not an exact dupe for MAC Club Eyeshadow or MAC Blue Brown Pigment but it has a similar effect.
Who knew? I am in awe of these Wet n' Wild shadows!! I hope that I can find them!!
ReplyDeleteThey look gorgeous. And the price is SO right :O
ReplyDeleteWish they were sold around here, sigh.
Those are gorgeous, especially Comfort Zone. I'll have to keep an eye out for them. It's amazing how WnW has improved their quality.
ReplyDeleteOMG! Not the bird is the word! I had that song stuck in my head all summer thanks to my 11 year old niece--she would sing that at the top of her lungs just to annoy me. I never should have let her watch Family Guy. Oh yeah--nice review!
ReplyDeleteThese are so so so nice shadows! I want them so bad... I'm really going to do my best to find them here...
ReplyDeleteWho knew indeed Felicia! Wet 'n' Wild has truely surprised me this past year and if they keep this up I may pass out. LOL. Fingers crossed that u find them close to u my dear.
ReplyDeleteSo very true Godfrina. That's the thing about drugstore products...they r not worldwide! Sucks!
I think Comfort Zone is a great neutral palette Ann. But seek out a matte highlighter or blender color to pair with it. All frosts here! Let us know if u find them. WnW really blew me away this past year and they never cease to surprise me.
Hahahhaaaa Kim! That song haunted me for days! LOL! leave it to kids to find it amusing. HAHAHA!
Agreed Mz Jenjuain! all the best with the hunt. It keeps us young right? LOL!
Wow, great value! Thanks for sharing Tina!
ReplyDeleteI found them in my local Walgreens but they were sold out of Petal Pusher and Comfort Zone. I did pick up the Blue Had Me At Hello. The colors are sooo pretty. Cant wait until the others are back in stock...
ReplyDeleteI also picked up all the 6 pan palettes from Rite Aid (so late I know lol), they were BOGO half off...
I bought these palettes last week. I really like them!
ReplyDeleteAlthough each single statement is translated in French on their packaging, these products are, sadly, not available in France. Why oh why ?
ReplyDeleteNo prob Sha. They r a real steal!
ReplyDeleteI think u got the best one jlowman1. I love the colors in Blue Had Me At Hello. And yay for getting the originals. Better late than never and even better at a BOGO sale!
Awesome Devin. They r fab!
Oh my Guad! That sucks! And sounds like a mean thing to do...translating to french but not letting our french beauty lovers indulge! :(
I ran out as soon as I heard two weeks ago and the Walgreen's by me only had Blue had me at hello and Petal Pusher. I still haven't found Comfort zone. And like you, I wish there would have been some mattes in the palettes and I could have done without Petal Pusher. Can't wait for your tutorials with these palettes (hint, hint) :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these palettes! (and your site as well btw)I just bought Blue Had Me At Hello, and even on my darker skin the colors are AMAZING! Thanks for introducing me to them! I'm going out to find Comfort Zone next. BTW, I was flipping through some of your older posts, and noticed that some of the Kat Von D True Romance swatches looked similar. Does anyone agree??? (http://bit.ly/foDRfa) Cuz if so...you can get the same type of colors for a lower price! :)
ReplyDeleteVERY BEAUTIFUL!!!
